The day started with a massive thunder storm and heavy rain, perfect for us to use the WiFi and do some planning. The storm broke the oppressive heat we experienced at Lake Como and when we were ready to venture out, the sun was out and it was a pleasant 20 degrees, perfect for exploring!
We found Lake Maggiore more accessible than Lake Como, with fewer tourists and a lovely relaxed feel. Lake Maggiore is the second largest lake in Italy after Lake Guarda and Lake Como comes in at third place.
The Borromean Islands of Bella, Madre and Superiore looked wonderful from the hotel and it's possible to get a boat out there and stay over. We kept exploring the shore lineas you can't do everything.
We stopped and walked the waterfront at Baveno.
We stumbled upon Piazza della Chiesa, one street back from the waterfront, noone around and eh voila you come upon the Church of Santi Gervasio e Prostasio, with a 12th century facade and a 15th century octagonal baptistry it was superb. It was quiet and peaceful and the murals were beautiful.
Scuplture of the day comes from the Baveno waterfront
