A great day in Lake Como. We drove to Tavernola and parked the car for free and jumped on the little water taxi to Como, €1.30 a ticket and a great way to see the town from the water without breaking the bank.
Of course the carvings were exquisite too, when you looked really closely you couldn't help but marvel at the craftsmanship of the artists of the day given the tools and equipment they would have used.

It was about 34 degees and really muggy, a heat haze was hanging in the air. We wandered the old town back lanes and visited the Duomo, dedicated to the Blessed Lady of The Assumption which dates back to the 14th century. It was cool respite after the heat outside.
We have visited many beautiful churches and cathedrals and all have been stunning. What was different about Como Cathedral were the tapestries, there were almost a dozen and they were so beautiful, it must be quite a job protecting them, they looked as good as new, not hundreds of years old.

We then took the cable car to the top of the hill and wandered about admiring Lake Como from on high, oh and we had lunch on the top while cheesy Italian music was playing in tne background....what a day!
Then a drive around the lake shore before heading for home, incredible residences tumbled down the hillside to private piers....it's quite something.
Plenty of variety in water transport....
Sculpture of the day comes from a fancy hotel garden, I spotted it over the fence and nipped in and took a sneaky photo .
