We decided we should have a quiet few days after Vienna and we hit the road for Alpbach, a small Tyrolean village in the Alp's. Had a quick peek at Salzburg but after 5 mins of traffic jam we bailed and headed for the hills. Great day for driving as the countryside looked gorgeous with lime green grass, small herds (no more than a dozen) of caramel coloured cows munching away and the hills and mountains looked incredible. The area must look magical with snow on the mountains and trees in winter. We stopped at a typical guest house for lunch along the way......superb and the waitress was all dressed up in traditional garb.
Alpbach is a tiny Alpine village and it looks just as you would imagine an Austrian village, it's pretty as a picture. In summer the area is great for hiking and mountain biking and tomorrow we will catch the gondola to the top and have a walk about. In the village tonight they had a traditional music performance which was delightful.
