de Young Museum

Inspiring visit to the de Young Museum with our friends Carol & John. We saw the 2018  official portraits of President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama by  Kehinde Wiley and Amy Sheral on loan from the Smithsonian.

It was good to see them, the green background to President's portrait was striking.   Not sure about the Barack & Michelle finger puppets on sale in the gift shop

There were so many collections you could spend an entire day here but you could get sensory overload if you're not careful :)

From the tiny and delicate to the grand - there's something for everyone.

We saw the Faith Ringgold’s American People exhibition - an extensive collection of 50+yrs of work.

Her work documents  political and social change,   and struggles for justice and equity. The quilted stories were fantastic especially Tar Beach, but they didn't photograph well.

There was a huge collection of indigenous and tribal art from around the world, almost to much to take in and fully appreciate.

But wait there's more - a large collection of contemporary art to please all tastes

You could spend a week here and still not see it all - a fantastic visit.
