Botanic Gardens

An urban oasis of green in the city! All 55 acres create space for folks to walk, run, rest and socialise.

You could spend a day here with a book and a picnic - lovely-jubly. Alternatively there is a hot dog cart by the entrance to the park and I can vouch for the taste of a hot links dog with sauerkraut and ketchup!

There's the New Zealand garden and right next door is the Australian garden - Jacinda gave a speech from here not so long ago with the Australia sign covered over, there's the Japanese Tea Gardens, succulent gardens, rain forest gardens....plus more!

Lovely plantings and we even saw a Pipevine Swallow Tail butterfly. Very lucky to see one but it was moving so quickly there was no chance of a photo so pics below courtesy of Wikipedia :)
In certain areas the gardens look to have been a little  'on hold' during Covid lockdown/s and I would say in some areas the gardeners are playing catch-up to maintain the gardens to their terrific former glory. Quite understandable as it a huge area to maintain.

All in all a great day was had by all - art  at the de Young and gardens - a perfect day.
