Segovia here we come

Valsain > San  Ilfonso de la Granja> Segovia

Woke up feeling good after the big day yesterday. It's incredible, no matter what time you look up at the sky, even first thing in the morning, you will see jet trails.

Took some pictures of Valsain - the town with lots of wondering horses - it has something fascinating about it - I need to Google its history.

Loving the horse Chestnut trees in full blossom.

We took the little bus, approx 10 minutes, from Valsain to San Ilfonso de la Granja and picked up some picnic supplies from the DIA supermarket for our walk to Segovia - approximately 14 k's.  Nice to spot a book exchange ☺️

We wandered through the lovely streets of San Ilfonso de La Granja. There was a vegetable market in the plaza and the local produce looked fabulous - the capsicums were enormous and I loved seeing the Padron peppers and white asparagus again.

Then back on the road again to Segovia in 28° heat. We had a few stops when we could find shade. There was a lot of walking on tarmac alongside B roads. At one stage we walked alongside a lovely a reservoir and stopped in the shade for a banana and  some  trout spotting.

Eventually we cut back into farmland for the last stretch into Segovia.

It's always good  to see the town  in the distance but for some reason the last few kilometers seem to take longer!

We entered the city gates around 1:00 p.m.

Again there was a couple of marvelous sculptures just as you entered the city.

We found the first place with food and had lunch - before we found our hostel and  before everything closed for siesta. €10 -lunch - salad, beer, bread, grilled chicken and potato frittes and coffee - that should keep us going for the last  stretch from the suburbs  to the old town.

As we walked through the old town to find our  hostel our  eyeballs were on storks - Segovia is going to require a blog post all on its own as we are surrounded by amazing architecture and historical monuments.

Lots to explore after we have done our washing,  had our showers and had a wee siesta.

Another great day on the trail.
