Manzanares el Real

Today we had perfect walking weather.Temperature was approximately 28°, but overcast, perfect for walking.

We were walking through alpine country, Park Regional de la Cuenca Alta del.  You have to keep your eyes peeled for the yellow arrow track markers, they can be on a tree, a rock, a fence post...overall though it's really well marked thanks to the yellow arrow painters.

They were lots of off-road cyclists on the tracks as being Saturday every mad keen off road cyclist was out on their off-road bikes, lots of Mamils (middle-aged males in lycra) zooming along with shouts of buen camino and hola as our paths crossed.

They were beautiful alpine flowers all along the trail, lots of wild lavender and cistus bushes as well as Myrtle trees, so pretty.

As we walked into Manzanares el Real we could see the castle, Castillo de Manzanares el Real, which even from a distance looked impressive. The castillo was built in 1745 in honor of Santa Maria de la Nava. It's Elizabethan and Gothic in style and was initially a defensive fortress, but later became the Palace of the Mendoza family, what a place to call home!

We are in  an Alpine village and as it is Saturday the plaza is busy with many hikers and cyclists and there is a band playing in the main square, rock and roll!

We had a little sprinkle of rain but not enough to bother to get our rain ponchos or pack covers out.The sun burned through the cloud and we were back to blue skies again.

Temperatures are definitely cooler and we had a small breeze which was welcome as we walked today. You can see we take a keen interest in the weather ☺️.

All going well, mustn't grumble :)
