Archeological Museum

The Archaeological Museum is in a medieval building that was used as the Hospital of the Knights,  known as Knights Hospitaller😁

You can wander around the building and courtyards across multiple levels.

The little arched rooms alongside what would have been a hospital ward are thought to be rooms to store the Knights armour and personal belongings. The design is ingenious.

It's not as big or complex as Istanbul's fabulous Archeological Museum but for a little island, it's punching above its weight and well worth a visit.

The examples of the mosaic floors and wall murals are beautiful and the pieces so tiny, it must have been painstaking work.

There is ongoing restoration around the Old Town and within the museum.

One of the most incredible exhibits (no photos allowed) were tiny polished crystal buttons  encased in metal. They used these as a magnifying glass to do very fine detail on jewellery and ceramic adornments. I think this was the best collection of exquisite tiny jewelry pieces,  fine ceramics and fan handles we've ever seen, simply incredible given the time and the tools available.

There's some cat lovers in town. We found a dear little cat sanctuary on the port breakwater where kitty cats were curled up in blankets with plenty of food and water.  Later as we were leaving the marina we spotted a ginger street cat that had hopped across the gangplank of a closed up superyacht. He had found a way to get under the weather covers and was curled up on the back deck couch having a lovely time, clever puss no 'outhouse' old cat sanctuary for him, he wanted the penthouse!
