We had a good walk through Zadar and the old town was stunning. The Roman ruins were so accessible and there was a Roman column plonked in the middle of an intersection, still standing that survived two world wars and the recent conflicts on the Dalmatian coast, incredible.
At the end of the old town promenade there is an art installation in the sea , a sea organ, depending in the wind and the waves you can hear the sea making music. The same artist also created a sun monument with discs of solar-powered cells that becomes a multicoloured disco ball as the sun sets, we missed this as we had had enough of the tourist shuffle in the heat and went back to Bebinje for a cooling swim.
All around you as you walk the little lanes you stumble across artwork on the sides of buildings and if you are not careful you could get neck ache from looking up, or walk into another tourist doing just as you are.
The cathedral is 12th century, the Roman forum shows inscriptions from the third century and you can just wander around, sit and picnic or walk your pooch and let them pee on historic treasures as we saw several times.
Sculpture of the day was tucked away in a side street all alone, but staunch and impressive.
