Stratford upon Avon

Quite by chance we struck it lucky, there was a  river festival, the Olympic flame was due to pass through town and there was a Morris dancing festival on so Stratford upon Avon was humming. Got a last bed in a B&B, check out the pic I will add....anyone for roses!  All the narrow boats were festooned with bunting and there was dancing all over the town. Some dancers hailed from from Cotswold region and had sticks and hankies to wave about, others were from the Welsh Borders areas and traditionally used coal to  blacken  their faces so as not to be recognised  and accused of begging, there were female only groups that based their dances on the original dances the female mill workers did in their breaks at the cotton mills...great stuff.
