Santander to Comillas

Comillas is a quaint old town that once was a bit of a sleepy fishing village. Now it's been discovered by history and art buffs and beach lovers alike. It's summer and the place is buzzing.

 We stumbled upon a traditional wedding in the plaza chapel.

 Beach time a  necessity in this heat.

 Lots of gorgeous old town cobbled streets to explore and a peek into plaza chapel, beautiful.

 On the hill above the town is the iconic University, no time to visit but check out the design, zoom in 😊

 We did get to visit Palacio de Sobrellano.

 The photos can't truly show the grandeur, the detail of the handpainted wall panels and the incredible parquet flooring panels.....  I could go on and on...the photos a but a wee taster of this incredible museum of art and design.

Then right next door is the Capilla Panteon, another stunner. The stained glass  was so vivid yet it's a couple of hundred years old, beautiful.

Comillas keeps on giving with the fabulous Antonio Gaudi folly El Capricho de Gaudi right next door to the Chapel.

 A lovely stroll to the port to end a cracking  day in Commilas.

Guemes to Santander

We were up to see the sun coming up the valley and had breakfast at the Albergue.

 Lovely morning to walk from the valley to the coast.

 The colours in the early morning light were beautiful, wheat fields, corn and even donkeys.

 We did spot some interesting graffiti.

 And there it is, a stunning coast line. Deep blue water, clear blue skies and bay after bay, just gorgeous.

 We came into Somo with a bit of a beach walk before a short ferry ride to Santander.

 Lovely coming into Santander harbour.

 We strolled to the Cathedral, so beautiful inside.

Fantastic day, big walk, good feet and knees and yet again we had the best weather, feeling thankful.

Noja to Guemes

Another fantastic day. An early start with the moon still out, shame I wasn't quick enough to capture the egrets in the wetlands, a peaceful start to our day.

Laredo to Noja

Another sunny day, can't believe our luck with the weather, every day sunny skies. Laredo is a great little fishing town and as we leave today we will take a ferry across to Santona, the home of the Anchovy.

It was about 4.4k's along the Laredo beach to reach the ferry.

The ferry takes all of 6 minutes but saves hours of walking. It only runs in summer so anyone going this way in winter takes the long road.

We didn't linger too long in Santona but spotted this lovely  church as we left town.

Boy oh boy, a bit of a goat track over a headland today. Steep and rocky going up and the same going down the other side but again, what a view.... spectaular.

It's not all beer and skittles, some bits are a bit boring but they make you appreciate the 'wow' vista's even more.

Lovely to see white herons, or the Spanish version, alongside some massive cattle.

We passed another ancient Ermita, this time San Nicholas, this area is so historic. I must admit to not reading the information beside the Ermita, too tired and hot.

Finally we reached Noja. Time for washing, eating  and the supermarket and a refreshing swim.  Check out the pic below, zoom in, we could be in Greece.
